About the ballets:
WORLD PREMIERE: POINTE OF MOTION// 30 minutes
Inspired by how can have a profound change on someone’s behavior, this new work explores the impact music plays in society. The sound and messages we release through our art form directly impact our listeners in powerful ways. This is especially true of the youth and adolescents of our society, who are still extremely malleable to the world around them. The dancers movement set the tone and the music, as they create the sound of the piece in real time using Point Motion technology. Motion control sensors are placed in front of the stage and dancers move throughout the stage, while Point Motion technology creates the sound by tracing their movements. This dynamic work is sharp, electrifying, and brings an audience to many different emotions music can bring out. A fluid watercolor backdrop projected onto the backdrop flows throughout the piece as it seems as if the dancers are painting the music with their movement.
WORLD PREMIERE: DRIFTLESS FRACTION// 30 minutes
‘Driftless Fraction’ is daring, electric, and a self analysis of our own emotions. Unique shapes and contrasting quick and slow movement take over the dancers’ bodies and was inspired by experimenting with the different sides of one’s personalities. How we interact with different people, our personality when we are alone, and how we control our reactions. This work is the result of Arch Contemporary Ballet’s National Summer Intensive for Dance & Composition at New York City Center – this world premiere performance showcases the dancers of this workshop and a world premiere composition by composers of the program.
